The Protocol

HOW SPINS WORKS

Spins Network is a coordination protocol that transforms passive music listening into collective action. By aggregating streaming data and aligning listener behavior toward higher-paying platforms, we maximize per-stream value for artists—then settle everything transparently on Polygon.

PROTOCOL LAYERS

Three interconnected layers work together to aggregate data, coordinate behavior, and settle payments.

Layer 01

Data Aggregation Layer

Connect your streaming accounts via secure OAuth. We aggregate play history from Spotify, TIDAL, Apple Music, and more into a unified data model using ISRC-based track normalization.

  • OAuth 2.0 with PKCE for secure platform connections
  • 4-hour sync intervals with rate-limit handling
  • ISRC-based cross-platform track matching
  • Encrypted token storage with per-user keys
Layer 02

Coordination Engine

The heart of Spins Network. We calculate network-wide coordination using principles from synchronization physics, measuring how aligned the community's streaming behavior is toward higher-paying platforms.

  • Phase angle calculation from platform distribution
  • Order parameter (0-1) measures network sync
  • Coordination signals capture user intent
  • Attribution links streams to signals
Layer 03

Settlement Layer

Built on Polygon PoS for fast finality and near-zero transaction costs. Perfect for micropayments—every stream can trigger a payment without eating into artist earnings.

  • ~2s block times for near-instant settlement
  • $0.001 average transaction cost
  • 7,000+ TPS capacity for scale
  • ERC-20 tokens for protocol-native assets
03 / Infrastructure

WHY POLYGON

Music streaming generates millions of micro-transactions. We needed a blockchain that could handle the volume without eating into artist earnings.

THE COORDINATION MODEL

THE PROBLEM

Per-stream royalty rates vary dramatically across platforms. TIDAL pays artists roughly $0.0128 per stream while Spotify pays around $0.004—a 3x difference. Yet listeners have no mechanism to coordinate their behavior to maximize artist compensation.

THE SOLUTION

Spins Network measures collective coordination using an "order parameter"—a value from 0 to 1 that shows how synchronized the network is. When listeners coordinate their streaming toward higher-paying platforms, the order parameter rises, and so does artist revenue.

Coordination Signals

Users send signals indicating intent to stream on specific platforms

Attribution

Streams are linked to signals, measuring actual coordination effectiveness

Campaigns

Artists launch campaigns to mobilize fans around releases and milestones
